The Counter-Intelligence Unit of the Special Cell of Delhi Police has apprehended a key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who had been absconding for the past seven years, officials said.
The gang member has been identified as Bobby Kabutar. He is said to be a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and was actively involved in the gang’s criminal operations. Police said he had been evading arrest for the past many years and was wanted in several cases.
Investigators said Kabutar was involved in conducting recce before the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. His role allegedly included gathering ground-level information before the high-profile killing.
Initial investigation by the Punjab Police and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had earlier suggested that the killing of the Punjabi singer was connected to organised crime. Lawrence Bishnoi was identified as the mastermind behind the murder.
Bishnoi, who was already in custody in other cases, had admitted to planning the killing and ordering surveillance of Moosewala’s movements. However, he claimed that he did not personally know the shooters involved.
