Police use force to disperse a protesting mob of students against alleged irregularities in JSSC-CGL examination in Ranchi on Monday.

Police used lathi charge to control students protesting against alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination on Monday. The protest caused traffic jams and disruption in the city, prompting police action.

Devendranath Mahato, leader of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM), and several of his associates were detained by the police.

The protesting students were upset over alleged exam mismanagement, including claims of a paper leak during the CGL exams held on September 21 and 22.

After the results was announced, the students demanded the cancellation of the examination and warned successful candidates not to attend document verification at the JSSC office in Ranchi.

On Monday, the protesters violated prohibitory orders and gathered near the JSSC office as the document verification process for 450 candidates began. Police used mild force to disperse the crowd and prevent further chaos.

The administration had prepared for the protest by setting up barricades and deploying around 2,500 security personnel, including anti-riot vehicles, near the JSSC office.

Protesting students accused the police of excessive force, claiming that their democratic right to protest was being suppressed. They demanded the immediate release of their leader, Devendranath Mahato, warning that if their demands were not met, the protests would intensify across Jharkhand.

The document verification process is scheduled to continue from December 16 to 20, with tight security measures in place to prevent further unrest.
