Polling is underway for the elections to the posts of Mayor and ward councillors in the municipal corporations of Ambala, Panchkula, and Sonipat in Haryana on Sunday. Voting is also being held for the election of Presidents and councillors in the Rewari Municipal Council and for Presidents and councillors in the municipal committees of Sampla in Rohtak district, Dharuhera in Rewari district, and Uklana in Hisar district.
Besides, by-elections are being held for one ward each in municipal councils and municipal committees in Tohana, Jhajjar, Rajound, Taraori, Kanina, and Sadhaura.
Polling for all posts, which began at 8 am, will continue until 6 pm, officials said. The votes will be counted on May 13. The contest in the municipal elections is expected between the Congress and the ruling BJP.
Haryana State Election Commissioner Devinder Singh Kalyan had earlier said that the commission is committed to ensuring the conduct of free and fair civic elections.
Extensive arrangements have also been made at polling stations to ensure that voters do not face any difficulty during the municipal body elections in the state, officials said on Sunday.
Everything, including clear and visible signage, help desks, drinking water, toilets, and other basic amenities, has been made available at polling stations.
Special priority-based arrangements have been made for differently abled persons, senior citizens, and women.
Facilities such as ramps, wheelchairs, and separate queues will be ensured for such voters so that they can cast their votes without any difficulty.
