BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has defended the Congress high command's decision to field V Naveen Yadav in the forthcoming Jubilee Hills by-election, asserting that the selection was made after consulting all senior party leaders.
The Minister admitted that former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav was keen to contest the by-election but stated that the party high command ultimately allocated the ticket to Naveen Yadav based on the prevailing circumstances.
On Friday, Prabhakar, alongside AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, Labour Minister G Vivek Venkatswamy, and other senior leaders, visited Anjan Kumar at his residence in an effort to pacify the disgruntled former MP.
Anjan Kumar Yadav openly questioned the rationale behind denying him the opportunity to contest, specifically citing the application of 'local and non-local' factors.
In a video circulating on social media, Anjan Kumar asked: "Why was this local and non-local factor applied when a few leaders contested from Kamareddy and Husnabad?" This query is particularly pointed, as Minister Ponnam Prabhakar himself represents the Husnabad constituency.
Despite the former MP's public dissent, the BC Welfare Minister insisted that Anjan Kumar has been instrumental in leading the party in Greater Hyderabad.
"Anjan Kumar is a senior leader and he will lead the party in fighting the Jubilee Hills by-election. Congress will win the elections comfortably," Prabhakar added, expressing confidence in a comfortable victory for the party.
