As many as 11 people, including six juveniles, have been booked for allegedly defaming a woman from Rudraprayag by linking her to a porn video that originated in Hyderabad, police said on Thursday.

Rudraprayag Superintendent of Police (SP) Akshay Konde said the accused also included administrators of four WhatsApp groups where the clip was shared.

The case has been registered at the Agastyamuni Police Station under the Information Technology (IT) Act and relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Konde said action was taken after the victim’s father filed a complaint, stating that the woman in the video was not his daughter and that she was being defamed.

A case was registered under Section 79 of the IPC (insulting a woman/violation of privacy) and Section 67A of the IT Act (publishing or transmitting sexually explicit content in electronic form).

The investigation found that the video was uploaded on various porn websites in 2023 and was linked to Hyderabad, with no connection to Rudraprayag.
Konde said police were identifying more people involved in the case and would take strict action against them.
