President Droupadi Murmu praised Punjab’s rich culture, traditions, and spirituality while speaking at a civic reception hosted by the Punjab Government at the Indian School of Business in Mohali.
She highlighted how Punjab’s vibrant folk dances, especially Bhangra, have an infectious energy that can lift anyone’s spirits.
She humorously remarked that if a patient watches Bhangra, they might feel so energized that they would want to get up and dance. "Their heart starts racing again, and half their illness disappears right there," she said, emphasising the dance form’s widespread appeal.
The President also acknowledged the immense popularity of Punjabi folk dances across India and praised Punjabi singers for making a mark on both national and international stages. She noted that Punjabi culture has become an integral part of celebrations across the country, especially at weddings, where Punjabi music and traditions are now common.
Speaking about Punjab’s culinary influence, President Murmu highlighted how Punjabi cuisine has been embraced worldwide. She mentioned that dishes like lassi, dahi (curd), and parathas are now enjoyed in many countries, and Punjabi restaurants attract food lovers everywhere.
Her speech reflected appreciation for Punjab’s contributions to India’s cultural and artistic landscape, celebrating its impact on music, dance, and cuisine at a global level.
