Property worth over Rs 2 crore belonging to a drug peddler was demolished in the Rainawari area of Srinagar under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan on Thursday, police said.
According to officials, the structure belonging to Sheikh Tasaduq was razed in Mumkhan Mohalla, Rainawari, during a joint operation carried out by the police and the revenue department. The accused was allegedly involved in multiple NDPS cases registered at Awantipora and Budgam police stations.
His wife, Sheikh Maroofa, was also named in an NDPS case registered in Pulwama. Officials said the three-storey building was illegally constructed using proceeds from the illicit drug trade and stood on government land.
The demolition drive also led to the recovery of government land worth crores which had been under illegal occupation.
Investigation had revealed that the property constituted illegally acquired assets derived from unlawful narcotics activities, apart from being an unauthorised encroachment on state land, a police spokesperson said.
Action against drug abuse and the assets linked to it would continue in the Valley, officials added.
