An assistant sub-inspector of police was injured after being attacked by a group of protestors in Bihar’s Saran district.

The violence broke out when a police team, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar, arrived at Pakritola Kevari Kala locality under Amnaur Police Station to disperse a group of people who had blocked the road. The protestors were demonstrating against the death of a seven-year-old boy who was run over by a truck.

According to a statement issued by the Saran district police, ASI Sanjay Kumar was attempting to pacify the angry crowd and assure them that strict action would be taken against the truck driver responsible for the accident.

However, tensions escalated, and Kumar was physically attacked by some members of the mob. In an act of self-defence, Kumar reportedly fired into the air.

Additional police forces soon arrived at the scene, rescued the injured officer, and rushed him to the nearest government hospital. His condition was later reported to be stable.
