The Dehradun Police has said it will take action against people holding protests, processions or rallies at major intersections and key spots in the city during the upcoming tourist season.
Police officials said a large number of visitors are expected in Dehradun and nearby tourist places during Christmas, New Year and school holidays. They said protests or rallies during this period could lead to traffic jams and trouble for the public. They added that it is also the wedding season.
As per the police, anyone who organises protests, processions, rallies, or uses loudspeakers or raises slogans without permission at important city intersections will be charged under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code.
The locations where protests are restricted include Ghantaghar, Gandhi Park, Parade Ground and nearby areas, Kanak Chowk, Esley Hall Chowk, Darshan Lal Chowk, Tehsil Chowk and Buddha Chowk.
Police said these areas are already banned for protests, rallies or other such activities under Section 163(1) of the Indian Civil Defence Code, 2023.
