Bharatiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin on Sunday asserted that the NDA’s 'double-engine' government has transformed Puducherry from a land of "anarchy and corruption" into a hub of growth, claiming that unemployment in the region had plummeted to 4 per cent from 47 per cent.
He promised to propel the Union Territory further at "rocket speed" through a focus on business, education, spirituality, and tourism. "In previous administrations, corruption was rampant, and even for jobs, people had to pay bribes. Women’s progress was neglected. However, under our double-engine government, significant changes are happening. Unemployment, which was reportedly as high as 47 per cent, has now been reduced to just 4 per cent," Nabin said.
Addressing a massive public rally here, Nabin sought support for BJP candidate Selvam, claiming that the era of rampant graft and unemployment under previous Congress-DMK administrations has been permanently replaced by a transparent, welfare-oriented regime.
"Our BJP-NDA alliance will work tirelessly to take Puducherry to new heights in these four sectors," he added.
Criticising the previous Congress government’s financial record, the BJP chief referenced the "CENTAC scam" where he alleged public money ended up in private hands.
He stated that the current administration ensures every rupee of tax money is "used honestly for the people." Highlighting infrastructure gains, Nabin noted that the PM recently announced projects worth ₹2,700 crore, including a ₹436 crore flyover and a ₹1,250 crore Special Economic Zone and IT Park that is expected to provide 30,000 jobs for local youth.
The BJP President also unveiled key manifesto promises aimed at consolidating the party's support among farmers and the fishing community.
He announced plans to increase PM-Kisan aid from ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 and raise assistance for fishermen to ₹12,000. Other major sops included two free LPG cylinders for the festivals of Pongal and Vinayaka Chaturthi and a ₹10,000 incentive for students.
"Our goal is to use the PPP model and science and technology to drive Puducherry’s growth at rocket speed," Nabin told the gathering.
He further emphasised the government’s commitment to social justice, stating that action has been taken to stop atrocities against the Scheduled Caste community and tackle the "land grabbing" issues that plagued the former administration.
