The Punjab Police arrested a sub-inspector (SI) and his accomplice after allegedly recovering 300 grams of heroin and Rs 1.27 lakh, suspected to be drug money, from their possession.
Senior Superintendent of Police Surendra Lamba identified the accused as SI Sahib Singh, a resident of Majjupur in Tarn Taran, who is currently posted as the Investigating Officer (IO) at Khalra police station.
His aide, Kinder Kaur, a native of Mari Udhoke and presently residing in Baba Jallan Colony in Chabal, Tarn Taran, was also apprehended.
Police officials said besides seizing drugs and narcotics money, they also impounded the car in which the two were travelling.
The SSP said after receiving credible information, a police party led by SHO Baljinder Singh of Khalra police station intercepted a Hundai i20 at Baba Jallan Colony in the Chabal area.
A thorough search, conducted in the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhbir Singh, resulted in the recovery of 300 grams of heroin and Rs 1.27 lakh in cash.
Following the arrest, SI Sahib Singh was terminated from service with immediate effect.
Ghubaya police post in-charge ASI Gurnam Singh and Head Constable Joginder Singh have been placed under suspension in connection with a heroin smuggling case.
The head constable was arrested by Muktsar Police on July 4 along with Arshdeep Singh, a resident of Mamdot in Ferozepur district, and Dilsher Singh, a resident of Sri Muktsar Sahib district, for allegedly possessing 280 gm of heroin.
