Thousands of farmers from all over Punjab converged at the Dussehra Ground in Sector 43 here on Wednesday under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) to protest against the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025 and demand adequate compensation for flood-affected farmers.
A heavy police force was deployed to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident during the protest rally.
Senior SKM leaders Harmeet Singh Qadian, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, Ravneet Singh and Raminder Singh Patiala demanded adequate compensation for farmers affected by the recent floods in Punjab. They said the losses to crops and property have so far not been properly addressed by the government.
They also opposed the proposed Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025, saying it would take away their benefits and threaten their livelihood.
