Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday criticised the AAP government in Punjab over the drug menace. He alleged that the Punjab government was merely “squandering” money on newspaper advertisements for its anti-drug drive instead of taking concrete action.
Targeting the Bhagwant Mann-led government over rising gang activities, Saini said that people no longer feel safe in Punjab. Speaking on the law and order situation, he said there was fear among citizens. He added that when the BJP forms the government in Punjab in 2027, it will wipe out gangster culture from the state.
“I have seen that in Punjab that only money was being spent on advertisements in newspapers with claims that we will end drugs and run campaigns against drugs,” Saini said, rejecting the AAP government’s claims that it is tackling the drug problem. He further said that the increasing drug supply in Punjab is dangerous for the youth.
Praising the BJP-led Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saini said the country has reached new heights and is progressing rapidly. He mentioned improved road connectivity, railway expansion and other infrastructure developments achieved over the past 11 years. Saini also accused the AAP government of trying to stop his public programmes in Punjab.
"I have programmes at different places in Punjab. But the government here in order to hide its failures is trying to stop them (my programmes)," he added.
The Haryana Chief Minister has been visiting Punjab frequently and highlighting his government’s work to the people of the neighbouring state. The Punjab Assembly elections are scheduled for early 2027.
Saini said that the BJP government in Haryana has provided two lakh government jobs in the past 10 years without ‘kharchi’ or ‘parchi’ — terms commonly used to refer to corruption and favouritism. He added that in just one year of his government in Haryana, 37,000 jobs have been provided to youngsters in a transparent manner.
Saini also said that Haryana has carved out a strong identity in sports, with many athletes winning medals at the Olympics, Asian Games and other international events. He said the state government has been actively promoting sports. On the issue of drugs in Punjab, Saini alleged that the supply of narcotics has increased and no effective steps have been taken to curb it. He urged the youth to stay away from drugs and said no one has the right to destroy their future.
Saini claimed that his government in Haryana is taking strict action against hardcore criminals involved in drugs and that their properties are being demolished. He further said that only the BJP can take Punjab on the path of prosperity and development.
Targeting both the Congress and the AAP in Punjab, Saini alleged that these parties were involved in promoting corruption and allowing the spread of drugs. He claimed that they do not care about the future of the youth.
