The Amritsar Rural police shot and injured a drug smuggler near the Attari border after he tried to escape during a recovery operation. A day earlier, the police had arrested two drug traffickers, Jagtar Singh and Angrej Singh, and seized 1 kg of ICE drugs along with ₹1.4 lakh in drug money.
Jagtar Singh was taken to the Attari drain for further recovery when he suddenly broke free from police custody and tried to run away. The police warned him multiple times to stop, but he did not listen.
To stop him, the police opened fire, hitting him in the leg. He was immediately caught and taken to the hospital for treatment. The police had already made a major seizure the day before by arresting Jagtar Singh and Angrej Singh with a large amount of drugs and cash.
Investigators believe both were involved in drug trafficking in Punjab and had connections with international smuggling networks. The police are now conducting a detailed investigation to identify their links and dismantle the entire smuggling operation.
