Ahead of his Moga rally in Punjab, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the state government. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of pushing Punjab into corruption, drugs and rising crime. He said the people of Punjab are now looking for “badlav” (change).
“Every person in Punjab wants change. Because the sacred land of Punjab, known for its soldiers, farmers and hardworking people, has been drowned in corruption, drugs, and crime by the 'Aap-da' government,” Shah stated in a post on X.
Taking aim at the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Shah said the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated. He alleged that under this “remotely controlled” AAP government, both development and governance have been missing.
“Today, we are very eager to engage in dialogue with the sisters and brothers of Punjab at the BJP's 'Badlav' rally in Moga,” Shah said. Shah is scheduled to address the ‘Badlav’ rally in Moga later on Saturday. The rally is being viewed as the start of the BJP’s political campaign in Punjab, where Assembly polls are expected in early 2027.
Extensive arrangements have been made for the rally at Killi Chahlan village in Moga. Moga lies in the politically crucial Malwa belt of Punjab, which holds 69 out of the state’s 117 Assembly seats. This region often plays a decisive role in the outcome of elections.
In February this year, the AAP had organised a rally at the same venue. The event was led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
Earlier, Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma claimed that people across the state now see the BJP as a reliable and credible alternative for change. He said the public has already made up its mind to remove the AAP government from power in 2027.
