A Corporation Primary School in Edamalaipatti Pudur, Trichy, is setting a new standard for government schools by introducing modern facilities, including a uniform with a QR code. The school, which has 650 students from Classes 1 to 5, has been upgraded with private school-like facilities thanks to the efforts of Headmistress Pushpalatha, the teaching staff, and funding from the Tamil Nadu government, the Corporation, and private donors.
The school already features smart classrooms, smart boards, Wi-Fi, and creative railway coach-style painted classrooms. The introduction of QR codes on students' uniforms is the latest pioneering move in the state. Every Wednesday, students wear specially designed T-shirts in yellow, green, red, and white, each with a QR code printed on it. Scanning the code instantly provides basic details, such as the student's class and the name of the school.
Latha Roslin, a teacher at the school, said about the new initiative, stating, "In this academic year, we are implementing the QR code uniform. With the help of this uniform, one can easily identify the school and class of the students, if they go missing." She added that the school is "updating with technology" and plans to add the student's name and parents' address to the codes in the future.

She also highlighted the smart classes and said, “Along with QR code uniforms, we also have smart classes, which are very useful during teaching.”
According to the school administration, the initiative has been introduced with student safety in mind. Plans are underway to make QR codes a permanent feature on all school uniforms in the form of badges, which will also include details such as the student’s home address and contact number in the future.
Among government schools in Tamil Nadu, this is the first school to introduce QR codes in uniforms for students.
