In a major organisational reshuffle, the Congress has appointed K Raju (Koppula Raju) as the new in-charge of its Jharkhand unit. Raju, currently the National Coordinator of the Scheduled Castes, Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Minorities Departments of the party, replaces Ghulam Ahmed Mir.

Mir was appointed as Jharkhand Congress in-charge on 23 December 2023, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Under his leadership, the Congress contested both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2024, securing two Lok Sabha seats and 16 in the Assembly.

Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal issued a press release announcing new AICC General Secretaries and state in-charges, with K. Raju appointed as the in-charge of Jharkhand. The reshuffle includes key changes in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and multiple other states.

K Raju, a resident of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, is a former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer known for his extensive work in social welfare policies. He frequently visits Jharkhand for party-related organisational work.

A close associate of Rahul Gandhi, Raju gained prominence in August 2013 when he was appointed head of the party’s Scheduled Caste unit.

A 1981 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh, he resigned from service in 2013 to join the Congress. His contributions include playing a crucial role in drafting key legislations such as the Right to Information Act, Right to Education, MGNREGA, and the Food Security Act.

Recently, the Congress high command called the ministers and MLAs from the Jharkhand Congress quota to Delhi for a meeting focused on the state’s core political strategy.

Following these discussions, Raju was appointed as the new state in-charge, marking a significant shift in the party’s leadership in Jharkhand.
