Rail travellers heading to Mizoram during the Christmas holidays will get additional connectivity, with the Railways set to operate two special trains between Guwahati and Aizawl to ease festive rush.
Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena said the decision followed his request to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for special services on the Guwahati–Aizawl route in view of the sharp rise in passenger demand during the festive season.
According to Vanlalvena, the Railways agreed to operate two 14-coach special trains connecting Guwahati with Aizawl’s Sairang station.
The special trains will depart from Guwahati on December 22 and December 24, and return from Aizawl on December 23 and December 25 respectively.

The additional services are expected to benefit commuters travelling home for Christmas and the New Year, particularly those facing difficulty in securing tickets on regular trains.
Vanlalvena said the arrangement would also help residents of Mizoram and Manipur living in Delhi and other metropolitan cities who were unable to get direct tickets to Aizawl. Such passengers can now travel to Guwahati and continue their journey to Mizoram on the special trains.
Mizoram has emerged as a key transit route for Kuki-Zo people from Manipur travelling to other parts of the country or returning to their villages, following ethnic violence in Manipur that has led many to avoid travelling through Imphal.
