The Meteorological Department in Srinagar has predicted another brief spell of light rain and snowfall over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday evening, while forecasting generally dry weather conditions for the next week.
Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, said that light rain or snowfall is likely at a few places toward late afternoon or evening today.
He added that weather conditions are expected to remain dry across Jammu and Kashmir from October 11 to October 19, with no major weather activity anticipated during this period.
However, the MeT Centre in Srinagar has issued an advisory to farmers to continue with all agricultural activities, as weather conditions are likely to remain favourable for field operations in the coming days.
The department said it will continue to monitor weather developments and issue updates as required.
Meanwhile, the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received the season’s first snowfall on October 6, bringing down temperatures by several degrees in famous hill stations, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam.
Due to reduced tourist numbers and lower pollution levels at most popular tourist destinations, stakeholders and the Tourism Department are expecting a long winter with strong tourist footfall in the coming months.
