Heavy rain and landslides continue to disrupt life in Himachal Pradesh, with 580 roads, including three national highways, still blocked for traffic. The local weather department has forecast that rain will continue in the hill state till September 17.
According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, Kullu is the worst hit with 206 roads blocked, including NH-03 and NH-305. Mandi has 141 roads closed, followed by 72 in Shimla, 44 in Kangra, 30 in Chamba, 29 in Sirmaur, 20 in Una (including NH-503A), 19 in Solan, 15 in Bilaspur, two in Kinnaur and one each in Hamirpur and Lahaul-Spiti.
Power supply is also badly affected. 598 transformers are not working, leaving many areas without electricity. Kullu has 270 disrupted transformers, Mandi 138, Solan 125, Shimla 41, Chamba 21, Kinnaur two and Lahaul-Spiti one.
Water supply has been hit too, with 367 schemes disrupted. These include 176 in Kangra, 102 in Shimla, 51 in Mandi, 22 in Chamba, six in Kullu and five each in Solan and Sirmaur.
The weather office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning from September 12 to 14 in Shimla, Kangra, Una, Sirmaur, Bilaspur and Hamirpur.
In the last 24 hours, several parts of the state received moderate to heavy rain. Baldwara in Mandi recorded the highest rainfall of 70 mm, followed by Naina Devi in Bilaspur (40 mm), Palampur and Kangra (36 mm each), Sundernagar (33.9 mm), Mandi (27 mm), Sujanpur Tira (20 mm), Kasauli (10 mm), Dharamsala (9.5 mm), Shimla (7.2 mm) and Manali (3.3 mm).
