Retired Karnataka DGP found murdered in Bengaluru home

According to preliminary reports, the 70-year-old former top cop was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at his home.

Retired Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash, a 1981-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Karnataka, was found murdered at his residence in HSR Layout, one of Bengaluru’s prominent localities, city police confirmed on Sunday.


According to preliminary reports, the 70-year-old former top cop was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at his home. The Bangalore City Police, in an official statement, said, “Retired DGP Om Prakash, 1981-batch IPS officer from Karnataka, has been murdered. The incident occurred at a residence in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. The exact reason for the murder is not yet known.”


Law enforcement officials rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the crime. Forensic teams and senior police personnel were seen at the residence, collecting evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

 

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Investigators are also questioning those close to Om Prakash, including domestic staff, neighbours, and acquaintances, to gather more details.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and police have stated that all possible angles are being explored, including personal enmity, professional rivalry, and robbery.


Om Prakash had a distinguished career in the police force, having served in various senior capacities before retiring as the Director General of Police. His sudden and tragic death has sent shockwaves across the state’s law enforcement and administrative circles.


More information is expected as the investigation progresses and a full inquiry is conducted by the Bengaluru police.
