Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that his administration's priority is to find the missing, extend support to the families of those killed and take all necessary precautions to prevent such human tragedies in the future by roping in the expert panel to study the causes.
The CM said, “Our efforts will be concentrated on retrieving as many bodies as possible from the rubble and then handing them over to the families for the last rites."
Omar then clarified that the incident occurred as a result of the cloudburst and also ruled out certain assumptions from the experts' circles regarding the bursting of glacial lakes.

He said his administration has appointed a team of experts to assess the causes and also suggest measures to mitigate future risks in the region.
On education, Omar admitted there are weaknesses in infrastructure and a shortage of teachers in remote areas but assured that the government is committed to providing modern classrooms and better facilities.
He said distorting history, particularly by mainstream politicians, is wrong. Governments come and go, but history should remain truthful and honest.
“Let the children learn the facts and decide for themselves.” Erasing one side or portion of valuable history is academic injustice.
“Their job is to oppose everything, and our job is to work. We will continue to engage with people despite criticism,” he added.
On the upcoming elections, Omar maintained that his party is ready. “There will be an election, and we will contest to sweep the block polls like we did in the assembly polls,” he said.
