Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday attended the centenary celebrations of Perur Tamil College at the Perur Aatheenam Math in Coimbatore. Former AIADMK minister SP Velumani, his brother Anbarasan and Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath were also present at the event along with state party leaders including Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, Mahila Morcha President and MLA Coimbatore Vanathi Srinivasan, and K Annamalai were also present.

Bhagwat went to the Perur Aatheenam where he participated in a special puja before the centenary functions. Traditional Shiva Velvi Puja was done at the early hours today, after which abhishekam to the main Shivalinga at the temple was completed.

Shanthalinga Marudachala Adikalar of Perur Aatheenam and Kumaragurupara Swamigal of Siravai Aatheenam had apprised journalists about the event importance a few days ago. They had stated that the celebration marked the 100th birthday of Shanthalinga Ramasamy Aatheenam, the 24th Guru Mahasannidhanam, who contributed significantly in rekindling Tamil Saiva customs and empowering oppressed communities by religious outreach.

 

The saints highlighted the cultural and social significance of the event, attributing Ramasamy Adigalar's efforts in education, public health, and religious integration. They added that RSS chief's participation highlighted a common belief in preserving culture and national values. The event ended with a public gathering accessible to devotees and locals alike, in which Bhagwat was present.
