Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday said wheat procurement was progressing efficiently across the state, with mandis witnessing record arrivals this season.

Responding to allegations by opposition parties that new conditions such as biometric verification had caused hardship to farmers, Saini said the procurement process remained transparent and farmer-friendly.

Addressing a press conference here, the Chief Minister said farmers were satisfied with the procurement system and that objections were being raised only by opposition leaders.

He remarked that opposition leaders visiting mandis should recall the situation during their own tenure and the difficulties farmers faced at that time. "The kind of falsehood they are trying to spread...they should remember their time. People have understood that they speak only lies," Saini said. He added that during the Rabi marketing season 2026-27, bumper arrivals had been recorded, surpassing figures of the past four years.

Congratulating farmers, Saini said the record production reflected the hard work and dedication of the farming community. According to him, more than 81 lakh tonnes of wheat have arrived in mandis so far, of which over 70 lakh tonnes have already been procured. He said that on April 11 alone, over 7 lakh tonnes of wheat reached mandis in a single day.

Saini added that nearly 5.80 lakh farmers have brought their produce to mandis during the ongoing procurement season. He said farmers were increasingly adopting modern agricultural practices and expressing confidence in the transparent procurement mechanism.

The Chief Minister recalled that ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections, the Congress had promised to shut down government portals introduced for farmers and other beneficiaries. He claimed that during previous regimes there was no structured digital system, leading to delays and lack of transparency, with farmers often waiting months for payments.

Criticising opposition leaders for touring mandis now, Saini said they should explain to farmers the conditions that prevailed when they were in power, when long queues and unresolved grievances were common. He said the BJP government was currently procuring 24 crops from farmers at the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Farmers are now receiving payments within 48 to 72 hours, he added.

Meanwhile, while opposition leaders continue to claim that some new measures have caused inconvenience, the state government maintains that technology-based initiatives have improved transparency, accountability and efficiency in the procurement process.

Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who recently visited several mandis, had alleged that farmers were facing “chaotic conditions” at procurement centres across the state.
