The newly formed NDA government in Bihar, led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, will face a floor test in the Assembly on April 24, according to an official notification issued on Saturday. The special one-day session has been convened ahead of the monsoon session scheduled in July, sources said.
Choudhary was sworn in as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar on April 15, marking the first time a BJP leader has taken charge of the state’s top post. His elevation came after the resignation of Nitish Kumar, who stepped down from the chief ministerial position to take up central responsibilities.
The transition marks a significant political shift in Bihar, where Nitish Kumar had dominated state politics for nearly two decades, leading multiple governments across changing alliances. His resignation also came shortly after he took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10, signalling a formal exit from active state leadership.

Choudhary, 57, has been active in Bihar politics for nearly three decades but joined the BJP only nine years ago. His appointment as Chief Minister is being viewed as part of the NDA’s strategy to consolidate its position in the state ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The upcoming trust vote is expected to test the cohesion of the ruling alliance in the Assembly. While the NDA currently enjoys a comfortable numerical strength, political observers are watching closely for signals of internal coordination among coalition partners.
Sources said the April 24 session will be brief and focused solely on the confidence motion, after which the Assembly is likely to be adjourned.
The development comes at a politically sensitive time in Bihar, with shifting equations following Nitish Kumar’s move to the Centre and the BJP’s growing influence in the state’s executive leadership.
