The Punjab government has intensified its crackdown on drug traffickers under its ongoing anti-drug initiative, ‘Yudh Nasheyan De Virudh’ (War Against Drugs).

In a major operation on Tuesday, police demolished two opulent houses belonging to suspected drug traffickers in Sangrur, the home district of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The action was carried out under tight security, sending a strong message against illegal activities linked to the drug trade.

One of the demolished properties belonged to Rajpal Singh and his wife, Ratto, who have been facing multiple charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act since 2017. Officials confirmed that a total of 11 cases were registered against them.

The second house was owned by a man identified as Lakho, who has been booked in four NDPS Act cases since 2018. Authorities stated that both structures were illegally constructed and were subsequently razed as per government directives.

The demolition drive is part of the Punjab administration’s broader efforts to combat drug-related crimes. Under the leadership of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the police department has introduced several measures to bolster enforcement, including a policy ensuring a minimum two-year tenure for police station clerks to maintain continuity in anti-drug operations.

As a result of the intensified campaign, Punjab Police has made significant progress in just 17 days, arresting 2,575 alleged drug traffickers and registering 1,651 FIRs across the state.

To further involve the public in its efforts, the government has also launched the ‘Safe Punjab’ Anti-Drug Helpline – 9779100200, urging citizens to report any drug-related activities and contribute to the fight against narcotics.

This latest operation underscores the Punjab government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace and taking stringent action against those involved in illicit activities.
