Multiple schools in Ludhiana, Punjab, and the recently inaugurated Halwara airport received bomb threat emails on Monday, triggering panic among students, parents, and school and airport authorities.

Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School in Sarabha Nagar received the email at 8:48 am. According to sources, the principal was on rounds at the time, and the message went unnoticed initially. The email was read around 9:15 am, following which school authorities immediately closed the premises and evacuated the students.

Another message was sent to parents asking them to pick up their children from the school premises by 11 am. The schoolchildren were then sent home quickly.

Besides, DAV School in Sarabha Nagar Extension and Bal Bharti School also received similar emails containing threats. Panic spread among students and parents after news of the threats spread. School officials said examinations were underway at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, the recently inaugurated Halwara airport also received a threat stating that the parking area would explode. Police have started an investigation into the matter.

Instances of threat emails have increased, especially in New Delhi and Punjab. While most of these threats turn out to be hoaxes, they still cause temporary panic and force authorities to mobilise resources at affected places.

There is currently no concrete information or leads regarding the origin of these threats, leaving scope for further investigation.

It remains unclear whether these are the handiwork of fringe elements or calculated attempts to divert law enforcement agencies from other serious crimes, particularly in Punjab, which continues to be one of the states most affected by gang violence and organised crime syndicates.
