India’s security forces neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
Security forces noticed a briefcase placed by the roadside at Narbal on the highway at around 7 am this morning. The area was cordoned off, and the traffic on the highway was stopped temporarily as a bomb disposal squad was summoned to the spot.
After sanitising the area, the bomb disposal squad destroyed the IED without causing any damage.
Last week, Punjab Police busted a Pakistan-backed terror module, arresting one person and recovering a remotely operated IED. After receiving intelligence, the state special operations cell (SSOC) of Amritsar acted immediately and foiled the terror plan.
“Initial investigations show that the accused was in touch with a Pakistan-based handler through encrypted platforms. The terror consignment was pushed across the border and later collected from a fixed location on the outskirts of the city,” said the Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav.
