Indian Army troops on Sunday opened fire on a suspected Pakistani drone after it crossed into the Indian side from across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
However, the drone quickly returned to the Pakistani side after being challenged by security forces stationed in the area, they added.
The drone hovered briefly in the Digwar area before retreating, they said.
This is the second incident in the past three days in which security forces have fired on a suspected Pakistani drone in Poonch district.
On February 27, security forces launched a search operation after suspected drone movement was detected along the LoC in the Poonch district.
Besides, multiple drone incursions have been reported in J&K’s Doda, Poonch, and Samba districts in the Jammu division over the past two months due to their proximity to the International Border and Line of Control.
Over a dozen such incidents have been reported, leading to recoveries of weapons, supplies and narcotics in subsequent search operations.
On January 11, the Army successfully foiled multiple drone incursions by Pakistan along the International Border in J&K. On January 13, suspected drone activity was reported for the second time within 48 hours in the Keri sector along the LoC in the Rajouri district. On January 30, reports indicated the Army fired warning shots upon sighting hostile drones, driving them back across the border.
Similar incidents were witnessed in February as well, though security forces have managed to foil all drone incursions along the LoC and International Border over the past two months.
