Security forces on Sunday launched a search operation in a village in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir after receiving specific intelligence about the movement of three suspicious persons in the area, officials said.
A local from BedhKhad in Darui reported seeing three persons, one carrying a heavy backpack, moving along a dried-up stream under the cover of darkness on Saturday night.
The local noted that although no weapons were spotted, the possibility of the individuals being terrorists could not be ruled out, as movement under cover of darkness through thick foliage is often associated with suspected militants.
Following confirmation, the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the Army and paramilitary forces, began a joint search operation to track down the suspected individuals.
Officials confirmed on Sunday that the operation was underway in the village and adjoining areas, but no contact had been established with the suspects so far.
Earlier, on January 25, 2026, security forces had gunned down a Pakistani intruder along the International Border in the same Samba district.
On March 23, 2026, a mysterious explosion occurred outside the residence of a former Sarpanch in Samba, leading to heightened security alertness.
Samba has also witnessed increased Pakistani drone activity near security installations and general areas along the International Border.
