In several cases, the bride would disappear within days of the wedding, taking along jewelry, cash, and other valuables.

A suspected ‘looter bride’ racket targeting unmarried men has surfaced in Maharashtra’s Beed district, where police are probing allegations that a woman married multiple men and repeatedly fled with cash and jewellery.

The latest complaint was filed by a man identified as Yogesh Shinde, who alleged that he was cheated of lakhs of rupees after being drawn into a marriage arranged through intermediaries. According to him, agents promised to find him a bride and collected significant sums of money during the process. The marriage was eventually solemnised, but within days, the woman and the intermediaries allegedly disappeared.

During his subsequent inquiry, Shinde claimed he discovered that the woman had previously married at least eight other men in a similar manner and had allegedly absconded each time with money and valuables.

Distressed over the incident, he approached the Beed Superintendent of Police, urging action against those involved. In his complaint, he said he had been cheated of a substantial amount and that the ordeal had pushed him towards suicidal thoughts, adding that he had been unaware of the woman’s past marriages.

A case has been registered at Chaklamba police station, and an investigation is underway. According to the complaint, the alleged racket operated by targeting unmarried men in rural parts of Beed district, where finding brides is often difficult. Police suspect that agents identified vulnerable individuals and charged hefty sums under the guise of arranging marriages.

It is alleged that in several cases, the bride would disappear within days of the wedding, taking along jewelry, cash, and other valuables.

The case has sparked concern in the region, with police now trying to trace others linked to the alleged network and determine whether more men were similarly duped.
