The Hamirpur Police arrested seven drug peddlers, including a couple, in two separate cases and seized 53.61 grams of 'chitta' (adulterated heroin) on Wednesday.
In the first case, Aditya Pandit, his wife Anu Kumari, Rajesh Kumar, Lalit Thakur and Naresh Kumar were held from Ward No. 3 in Pratapnagar. A total of 39.78 grams of chitta was seized from them. Police said all the accused in the first case were residents of Hamirpur. The arrests were made following a tip-off.
In another case on the same day, police arrested two persons with 13.83 grams of 'chitta' near Bhota town.
The accused were identified as Sukhvinder Singh, a resident of Una district, and Sahil from Pathliyar village in Hamirpur. They were travelling on a motorcycle when police intercepted them and recovered the contraband.
Superintendent of Police Hamirpur Balbir Singh Thakur confirmed the arrests and said cases had been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway.
