A team of Hamirpur Sadar Police conducted a raid at a hotel located on the Shimla–Mataur National Highway in Hamirpur district and busted an alleged sex racket. During the operation, three women from Punjab were rescued, officials said.
Police said they had been getting inputs about suspicious activities at the hotel for quite some time and had kept the premises under surveillance. Acting on inputs, a raid was conducted on Sunday at a hotel in the Tiale Da Ghat area, and two hotel operators were booked.
Three women from Amritsar in Punjab were rescued during the raid and taken into police custody, officials confirmed on Monday.
Police said similar incidents had reportedly taken place at the location earlier, which led authorities to intensify monitoring and surveillance of the hotel.
After receiving specific information, the police team carried out a planned operation at the hotel. A case was registered against the operators, identified as Prithi Chand and Kashmir Singh, and further probe is in progress.
During initial questioning, police suspected the involvement of the women in sexual activities at the premises. Following their rescue, medical examinations were conducted and their statements were recorded before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Hamirpur.
The women were later shifted to Hamirpur’s One Stop Centre, where they have been provided temporary shelter along with legal and medical assistance. Officials said the facility would also provide counselling and ensure their safety.
As per police, the hotel had allegedly been linked to a sex racket for a long period, and the entire matter is being thoroughly probed. Police added that efforts are underway to identify other persons connected to the network, and the crackdown against such illegal activities will continue in the area.
