In a significant blow to the banned separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), the Punjab Police has arrested Resham Singh, a key operative connected to the pro-Khalistan network. The arrest was made by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Mohali, following a tip-off from confidential intelligence sources.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed the arrest on social media, identifying Resham Singh as a resident of Hamidi village in Barnala district. Singh had been evading arrest and was wanted in several cases linked to SFJ’s separatist activities.
According to police officials, Singh played a central role in the recent vandalism of a statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Nangal village, Phillaur. The act was reportedly carried out on the instructions of SFJ’s fugitive chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and gangster Surinder Singh Thikriwal.
In addition, Resham Singh was responsible for painting pro-Khalistan and SFJ graffiti in various districts, including Patiala, Faridkot, and Jalandhar, in an effort to incite communal tensions and disturb public order. Singh has a record of involvement in anti-national activities and has previously been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in cases registered in Karnal and Sangrur. A new FIR has now been lodged, and he is currently being interrogated to uncover further details about SFJ’s network and future plans.
Police officials described the arrest as part of an ongoing, intensified crackdown against separatist elements attempting to destabilise Punjab.
