Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor at the earliest. The corridor connects India with Gurdwara Sri Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Pakistan.

In his letter, Dhami said Kartarpur Sahib is the sacred place where Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent the final years of his life spreading the message of honest living, devotion and communal harmony. He said the shrine holds immense religious and emotional importance for Sikhs across the world.

Dhami recalled that the corridor was inaugurated in November 2019 to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It enabled lakhs of devotees to visit the historic shrine after decades. He said its closure due to security concerns between India and Pakistan has deeply disappointed the Sikh community worldwide.

He also noted that the SGPC has repeatedly taken up the issue with the Centre. Over the years, the committee has passed several resolutions and written to the Punjab Governor and the Union Home Minister, requesting that the corridor be reopened.

Dhami said restoring the corridor is not just about travel but about respecting the religious sentiments of millions of Sikh devotees. He urged the Prime  Minister to treat the matter as a priority and direct the concerned ministries to take the necessary diplomatic and administrative steps to reopen the route without further delay.

The SGPC president expressed hope that the Central Government would respond positively to the community's appeal and allow devotees from across the world to once again visit and pay obeisance at Sri Kartarpur Sahib.
