A 14-year-old boy in Shimla, who suffered a head injury after a brick fell on his head from the seventh floor of an under-construction building, died after battling for life for 11 days.
The deceased, identified as Tanish Kaushal, was hurt on April 29 while coming back home from school. Police said a brick fell from a private building under construction and struck him on the head.
Residents nearby immediately rushed the seriously injured boy to a hospital. He remained under treatment for several days but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
After the incident, the police have registered a case under Sections 125 and 125A of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to negligence. One person, identified as Shanta Lal Chopra, has been apprehended in connection with the case.\
According to police officials, an investigation has been initiated. Physical evidence has been gathered from the construction site, and statements of witnesses have been recorded. Authorities said the accused will be produced before the court. Further inquiry into the incident is currently underway.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about safety standards at under-construction buildings in densely populated residential areas of Shimla, where construction work often continues close to roads and residential houses.
