The Rabies Mukt Shimla Mega Dog Vaccination Drive, initiated by Humane People NGO (Rampur) in collaboration with Mission Rabies and the Municipal Corporation Shimla, continues to make remarkable progress. The campaign is being strongly supported by reputed organisations such as People Farm (Kangra, Himachal Pradesh), CAWA, and several local NGOs.
A key highlight of this campaign is the introduction of QR-based technology in Shimla for the first time. This system ensures ward-wise digital records of vaccination and sterilisation for every dog, enabling transparency, accountability, and effective monitoring. The technology was formally inaugurated by Shimla Urban MLA, Harish Janartha, in the presence of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Municipal Corporation Shimla.
In addition, a significant step forward was the signing of an MoU between the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Shimla, Bhupinder Attri, and the Founder of Pawfriend.in, Akshay Ridlan from Mumbai, to facilitate the identification of dogs and strengthen coordination with multiple NGOs engaged in this mission. This partnership will enable scientific data management and enhance execution efficiency across all wards of Shimla.
Speaking on the occasion, Harish Janartha said this initiative is not only a milestone for Shimla but a model for the entire state. The use of QR-based technology will ensure scientific, transparent, and accountable implementation of rabies control.
People Farm made a notable contribution by deputing three skilled net catchers — Sahil Bhatt, Sahil Saini, and Naveen — who supported the campaign for four consecutive days. They were deployed with one of the fastest-performing field units, Team Cheetah, which vaccinated an impressive 382 dogs over four days (80, 80, 118, and 104, respectively). Overall, the campaign has so far successfully vaccinated 2,346 dogs across Shimla city.
The organizers have extended special appreciation to People Farm NGO, whose timely manpower support and technical expertise ensured safe and efficient handling of free-roaming dogs during the vaccination process.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to People Farm and its Co-Founder, Mr. Robin, for his unwavering support in this campaign. Their contribution has significantly strengthened our mission to achieve a rabies-free Shimla,” said Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma, District Nodal Officer – Rabies Control, Himachal Pradesh, who is also the Principal Coordinator of the campaign.
The drive is being conducted across all 34 wards of Shimla, with the ambitious goal of vaccinating nearly all stray dogs to safeguard both human and animal health. The integration of QR-based technology, backed by the MoU with Pawfriend.in and multi-stakeholder collaboration, marks a pioneering step towards rabies elimination, setting an inspiring example for other regions of India and beyond.
