A tragic collision on the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Tuesday morning has claimed the lives of six people, including three women, after a double-decker sleeper bus rammed into a van. The accident occurred at approximately 4:20 am within the jurisdiction of the Sadabad police station, as families were making their way through the pre-dawn darkness.

The van, which was carrying passengers from Prem Nagar in Delhi to Dholpur in Rajasthan, was hit from behind by the sleeper bus as it travelled from Noida towards Gorakhpur. According to Superintendent of Police Chiranjiv Nath Sinha, the crash happened while the bus driver was attempting a high-speed overtake. There were 16 people inside the van at the time; while the driver miraculously escaped without injury, the impact proved fatal for six of those on board.

The deceased have been identified as Dinesh, 50, and his wife Sunita, 48; Vijay Baghel, 27, and his wife Pinki, 26; 35-year-old Lokesh; and 65-year-old Nathu Devi. All were neighbours and friends from the same locality in Delhi, travelling together for the journey to Rajasthan.

In addition to the fatalities, six other passengers — including three children, two men, and a woman — suffered serious injuries. The children were immediately rushed to SN Medical College in Agra, where doctors have confirmed that two of the children are now out of danger. Police from the area, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Ram Anand Kushwaha, arrived at the spot immediately after the accident to oversee the rescue operation and clear the wreckage from the expressway.

Authorities have taken a firm stance following the incident, with the bus driver, operator, and conductor already in custody. A case is being registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and SP Sinha has vowed that strict action will also be taken against the bus owner. As investigations continue, the tragedy highlights the persistent dangers of overtaking manoeuvres on the country's high-speed corridors.
