Six women were injured after their SUV fell into a deep gorge on the Bijhari–Dhangota road in Hamirpur, police said on Tuesday.
Police said two of the six women sustained serious injuries in the road mishap, which took place late on Monday night.
As per reports, the family of Baldev Singh, a hails from Sohari village, was returning home from Mathol when the vehicle went out of control and plunged into a deep gorge near the Bharthari temple.
After hearing the victims crying for help, local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police. With the help of local residents, the police rescued the injured and took them to the Binjari Community Health Centre.
After initial treatment, all the injured were referred to the Hamirpur District Hospital, Barsar Deputy Superintendent of Police Lalman Sharma said.
Police have registered a case and launched a probe to determine the cause of the accident. Initial findings suggest that the absence of proper warning signs on the road may have contributed to the mishap.
Officials said that although the Public Works Department had installed speed breakers at the spot, there were no warning boards indicating “speed breaker ahead,” and the speed breakers were not painted white.
