Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi may visit Chandigarh to offer condolences to IAS officer Amneet P Kumar. The visit would be after the suicide of her husband, Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, on October 7.
Reports say Congress MP Deepender Hooda has visited the grieving family twice in the past two days. This morning, he made a brief visit to the Sector 24 home of the late officer before heading to Shimla for the unveiling of former Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s statue.
Sonia Gandhi and her daughter had already reached Shimla. They may stop in Chandigarh to pay their respects.
Earlier, the Congress chairperson sent a condolence letter to Amneet Kumar. In it, she described the IPS officer’s suicide as “shocking and very painful.”
When contacted, Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda called the incident “very unfortunate.” He added that the Gandhi family, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, was aware of the case. They are considering visiting the grieving family while they are in Shimla.
