Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi greets people during his visit to the Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi programme at the SNDP Yogam Kalpetta Union hall, in Wayanad on September 22. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi also accompanied him.

Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and her son, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, have departed for New Delhi after concluding a three-day private visit to Kerala. They left in a chartered flight from Karipur International Airport on Monday.

The visit, which coincided with Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s constituency engagements, saw the family attend several programmes. On Friday, Sonia and Priyanka made an unexpected stop at a "Walk Against Drugs" campaign led by senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala. Their convoy passed the venue just as the anti-drug pledge concluded, prompting Sonia Gandhi to stop and express her appreciation for the programme. Later that day, the two also met with coffee growers in the hill district to hear about the challenges facing the industry and visited the Swaminathan Research Foundation, where they planted saplings.

On Saturday, Rahul and Priyanka inaugurated an auditorium named after the late Congress leader and former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at Kottathara village council. On Sunday, they paid floral tributes to Sree Narayana Guru on his Mahasamadhi Day in Kalpetta.

On Monday, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra chaired a meeting with officials at the Malappuram district headquarters to review development works in the Assembly segments under the Wayanad constituency. She told reporters afterwards that while some of the projects were progressing well, others were not. She also said the meeting had addressed ways to resolve the issues faced by the Cholanaikar tribal community, whom she had visited earlier.
