Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday announced that a two-day special Assembly session will be held to mark the state’s 25th foundation day and plan for the next 25 years. President Droupadi Murmu will address the session on November 3.

The session will take place on November 3 and 4. Uttarakhand celebrates its foundation day on November 9.

At a press conference in Dehradun, Dhami said the 11-day silver jubilee celebrations will be held across the state from November 1 to 11. “Today is the auspicious occasion of Devutthana Ekadashi and Igas. During this period, several programmes will be organised,” he said.

"To further our journey and discuss the roadmap for the next 25 years, we have decided to convene a special session of the Assembly. It is a matter of great joy for us that the president will address the session on November 3," he added.

Dhami said the session will discuss the future direction of the state.

On the occasion, Dhami remembered former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh. He also paid tribute to the activists who fought for the state’s creation.

Referring to the recent natural calamities, Dhami said monsoon disasters have caused heavy loss of life and property in the hill state. Earlier in the day, he visited Chenagad in Rudraprayag district, which was severely affected by the recent calamities.
