Flight operations at the Srinagar International Airport resumed on Saturday after a day-long disruption caused by snowfall that lashed widespread parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

The Airport Authority of India, with assistance from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), cleared the runway, hangars, and taxiways on Saturday morning to ensure the resumption of operations following an improvement in weather conditions.

Since late Thursday evening, flight operations had been hampered due to a massive windstorm, followed by moderate snowfall until Friday afternoon. All 17 inbound and outbound flights were suspended on Friday due to adverse weather conditions, officials said.

“Flight operations have resumed at the airport, as a flight has just landed at the aerodrome,” officials at Srinagar Airport said on Saturday. Officials added that “A joint inspection was carried out, and flight operations were resumed.”

Flight operations are expected to run normally and smoothly as the MeT Department predicts dry weather across the Kashmir Valley for the next 48 hours.

However, the country’s premier airliner, IndiGo, cancelled a flight early in the morning due to adverse weather conditions, while a few others were cancelled due to a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen giving pilots essential information on flight safety) issued at Delhi, they added.

Meanwhile, train services also resumed after a day-long disruption caused by snowfall and adverse weather conditions. Major highways in the UT were also restored for traffic on Saturday. However, traffic on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and the alternate historic Mughal Road remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Saturday.
