Asia’s largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar has drawn nearly four lakh visitors in one month since its opening on March 16. The 2026 season has already witnessed a record-breaking 3.90 lakh visitors by mid-April, with nearly 1.8 million tulips attracting two lakh domestic tourists, 1,200 foreign tourists, and the rest consisting of local visitors.
The figures for this year so far mark a strong showing compared to previous years, reflecting a significant tourism revival.
The garden was thrown open to the public by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on March 16, with expectations of welcoming a record number of tourists.
The opening of the garden also marks the beginning of the tourist season in Kashmir. A large portion of the tourism season in Kashmir was affected after terrorists gunned down 26 people, mostly tourists, in the Baisaran valley of Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.
With the administration’s constant and relentless tourism efforts, led by the Chief Minister and stakeholders in collaboration with outside partners, Jammu and Kashmir is back on the tourism map with massive crowds visiting the Valley even before the peak season.
The high footfall, bolstered by 70 per cent hotel occupancy in the Valley, marks a significant revival following lower numbers in 2025 due to security concerns.
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar experienced record-breaking attendance, with over 8.55 lakh (855,125) visitors in the 2025 season.
This surpassed the 2024 season, which saw roughly 4.46 lakh visitors. The 2025 season lasted around 30 days, opening on March 16 and closing on April 24, with over 1.7 million tulips on display.
