In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, triggering panic and outrage among local residents.
The incident occurred in the Gonudih OP area, specifically at Bholanath Baseria, No. 4 Yadav Basti. The deceased has been identified as Ankit Yadav, son of Kundan Yadav.
According to locals, the child was playing outside his house near a Hanuman temple when a group of stray dogs suddenly appeared and surrounded him.
Before anyone could react, the dogs attacked the child and brutally mauled him, inflicting severe injuries all over his body. Hearing his screams, local residents rushed to the spot and managed to chase the dogs away. However, by then, Ankit had already sustained critical injuries.

He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Eyewitnesses said the child was found in a pool of blood, leaving the entire locality in shock.
Family members who arrived at the scene broke down after seeing the condition of the child’s body. The heart-breaking incident has sparked anger among residents, who blamed the authorities for failing to control the menace of stray dogs in the area.
Locals have demanded immediate action from the district administration to prevent such incidents in the future, including measures for stray dog control and improved safety in residential areas.
This is not the first such incident in Jharkhand as earlier also stray dogs have killed children in various parts of state, including one a RIMS, Ranchi.
