Security forces on Tuesday launched a large-scale search operation along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after detecting suspected Pakistani drone activity, officials confirmed.
The suspected drone movement was intercepted over the general area of Daboh late on Monday. Upon noticing the intrusion, security forces immediately mobilised additional reinforcements and initiated a thorough combing operation. The primary objective was to ensure no weapons, narcotics or other contraband were airdropped.
A joint search and cordon operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Border Security Force (BSF) is currently underway in the area. Simultaneously, another operation is in progress in the Bhai Nallah, Lala Chack and Malani areas of Rajpura in Samba district, after reports of suspicious movement in those sectors.
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a sharp increase in drone incursions from across the border in recent months, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border in Poonch, Rajouri and Samba districts.
Earlier, on March 1, the Army foiled multiple drone intrusion attempts in the Poonch sector, detecting two or more quadcopters at around 5:45 am. Following a series of back-to-back intrusions, authorities temporarily closed schools in border districts and areas close to the LoC on March 2 and March 3, as a precautionary measure for student safety.
Another search operation was launched in Samba district on March 10, following fresh reports of suspected drone activity on the same day.
