The bail plea of suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who is currently lodged in Chandigarh Model Jail in a corruption case, has been rejected by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The suspended DIG had approached the High Court on January 9 seeking regular bail. He told the court that the investigation had already been completed and the final report was filed on December 3 last year. He argued that there was no need for further custodial interrogation.
In his plea filed through his counsel Nikhil Ghai, the petitioner had stated that the prosecution mainly plans to examine official witnesses and the complainant in the case. He also pointed out that he has been suspended from service, so there is no possibility of him influencing witnesses or tampering with evidence.
Bhullar further said the complainant had already been given protection under the High Court’s orders. He claimed that the alleged trap was related to a co-accused and did not involve any direct acceptance of money or recovery from him.
