Telangana Cabinet approves mid-day meals for Classes 11-12, 2.5 lakh Indiramma houses, and key policies to boost jobs and development.

The Telangana Cabinet has approved a series of major welfare and development measures, including the introduction of a mid-day meal scheme for students in junior colleges and the sanctioning of 2.5 lakh houses under the second phase of the Indiramma housing programme.

Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting on Saturday, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government has decided to extend the mid-day meal scheme to all students studying in Classes 11 and 12 across the state. The move is aimed at improving nutrition and encouraging continued education among students at the higher secondary level.

The Cabinet also approved the construction of 2.5 lakh houses under the second phase of the Indiramma housing scheme. In the first phase, the government had already sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses at an estimated cost of Rs 22,500 crore. As part of the new decision, 2,000 houses will be allocated to each Assembly constituency. Additionally, one lakh houses will be constructed for the Lower Income Group (LIG) across 24 Assembly constituencies in the Greater Hyderabad region.

In a significant push towards economic growth, the Cabinet approved the Next-Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026–30, unveiled earlier by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy during his visit to the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos. The policy aims to attract investments worth USD 25 billion and generate five lakh jobs over the next five years, with the broader goal of positioning Telangana among the top five life sciences hubs globally by 2030.

The Cabinet further cleared proposals by state power distribution companies to join the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a central government initiative focused on improving power distribution infrastructure and efficiency.

In addition, the government sanctioned Rs 587 crore for land acquisition and related works for the Palamuru–Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, a key project aimed at enhancing irrigation facilities in the state.
