In a shocking incident that took place in the presence of a police constable, a 29-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in Telangana’s Sangareddy district.
According to the police, the incident took place near Nandikandi in Sadashivapet 'mandal' when Siddha Reddy (35) fatally attacked his wife, Kavitha (29), during a journey back from Jadcherla. The couple, residents of Tummanpally in Jharasangam mandal, had been living in a rented house in Zaheerabad, where Reddy ran a ‘pani puri’ cart, and Kavitha worked as a tailor.
Police said Kavitha had been in contact with Pawan Kumar Reddy (32), a resident of Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh, for several years after the two connected on Facebook. On March 27, she left her home along with her two children—a nine-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son—and went to stay with him in Jadcherla.
Unaware of her whereabouts at the time, Siddha filed a missing person complaint on March 28. During the investigation, police traced Kavitha to Jadcherla. On Sunday, a police team, accompanied by Reddy, reached the location and counselled the couple, advising Kavitha to return home. However, she refused.
According to Zaheerabad town Circle Inspector SS Shivalingam, tensions escalated after the counselling session. Siddha allegedly left briefly on the pretext of having tea and procured a knife. Later, Kavitha set out for Zaheerabad in a car along with Siddha, Pawan, and police constable Khadeer, who was accompanying them.
Police said the constable attempted to sit between the three to prevent any confrontation, but Kavitha declined and sat in the back seat with Siddha and Pawan. As the vehicle approached Zaheerabad, Siddha Reddy allegedly took out the knife and attacked her, inflicting fatal injuries. The constable immediately alerted the driver and directed him to rush to a hospital in Sangareddy. However, doctors declared Kavitha dead on arrival.
Following post-mortem, the body was handed over to her family on Monday. Police have taken Sidhha into custody and further investigation is underway.
