BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday, accusing her of lying, disregarding the Constitution, and engaging in vote-bank politics under the guise of secularism.

Speaking to , Chugh said Banerjee was wearing the "mask of secularism" to push her political agenda and went as far as to compare her to Muhammad Ali Jinnah, branding the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as the modern-day equivalent of the Muslim League. He claimed that Banerjee's approach was not only divisive but a deliberate attempt to polarise voters for political gain.

His remarks came in response to Mamata Banerjee's recent statements where she reaffirmed that West Bengal would not be divided under her leadership.

Addressing concerns within the Muslim community regarding the Waqf Amendment Act, Banerjee acknowledged their pain but urged them not to fall prey to political provocations. Tensions have escalated in the state, especially in Murshidabad district, where protests against the Act turned violent earlier this week.

Demonstrators clashed with police, resulting in stone-pelting and several police vehicles being set on fire.

Chugh also welcomed the extradition of Tahawwur Rana to India, describing it as a strong move that reflects the strength and resolve of "New India" under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Rana, a Pakistani-Canadian national convicted in the United States, was found guilty of supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the terrorist group behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed over 174 people.

After years of efforts by Indian authorities, the US Supreme Court recently cleared the way for his extradition, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will take custody of him upon his arrival in India. Chugh said this step represents a crucial development in delivering justice to the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks.
